Design
The W300's 65,000-color, 128 x 160 display is housed under the front cover while the outside sports a supplementary 101 x 80 color display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and music player information. The VGA (640 x 480) camera is housed on the front cover as well. The W300 uses an internal antenna--nothing to snag or break off--and a five-way button just above the dial pad is used to control most of the phone's menus and features. Up/down buttons on the left side of the phone can be used for quick volume control and menu navigation. USB data and charging ports, as well as a headset port, are located on the phone's bottom edge. And because the W300's front and rear faceplates are changeable with Sony-Ericsson Style-Up covers, you can dress it up to suit your style. The design also incorporates a unique carry handle on the top of the phone.

Calling Features
The W300's phone book can hold up to 510 contacts with multiple entries per contact. A call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls. The phone's voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The phone also features a speakerphone for easy, hands-free talking. In addition to a vibrating alert, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3- and AAC-format ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. There's even a bundled application that lets you mix your own ringtones with up to 16 tracks. Picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. Lastly, users of Bluetooth headsets will find perfect compatibility with the W300.

Snap some great shots when you're out and about.
Messaging, Internet and Tools
The W300 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is also supported and the phone ships with a built-in email client.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the W300, as it supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the high-speed EDGE protocol. When used with a carrier data plan and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capabilities the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the W300 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock with a timer and stopwatch. Sony Ericsson Sync Station software lets you synchronize your Microsoft Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks with your phone.

Imaging and Entertainment
The W300 was designed for serious fun. The built-in VGA camera captures stills and video to the phone's 16MB of internal memory. Picture effects and custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be set up to fit your personality.

Java support is built into the W300, making it a powerful gaming companion for both online and offline games. Games are downloadable via the MEdia service or you can use the handset's USB or Bluetooth data connections to load more games and files onto the phone.

What Customers Say About Sony Ericsson W300i Unlocked Cell Phone with MP3/Video Player, Memory Stick Micro Slot--U.S. Version with Warranty (Shadow Black):

The Bluetooth also seems to work beyond the 30 ft range.+ I've experienced better reception and fewer dropped calls with this phone versus my last phone.- The keys are extremely hard to find reliably especially if you have big fingers like me. I've had my W300i now for about 3 months. I'm always hitting mulitple keys accidentally.- Turning on the speakerphone during a call is at least a three step process. Here's my list of positives and negatives of this phone.+ Great Bluetooth pairing and reception. It was very easy to figure out and pair my first ever Bluetooth device with this phone. My old phone was just one key. This is stupid.+ Very lightweight.- Did not come with an English manual and shipping company still has not provided one in spite of saying they would months ago.

Me and my wife bought two SONY phones which has the same interface and the contact broke in 6 months on one of the phones. (LOOK AT THEIR CHARGING INTERFACE CLOSELY AND YOU PROBABLY DON'T HAVE TO READ THE REST OF THE REVIEW). Even the phone with latest and greatest of features won't last for more than 6 months because of a very simple flaw in their design. Imagine someone gave you a Macbook Air with 2 spare batteries but you cannot charge the battery.

When you put the phone on a charger, the battery charges through a pin-point contact. I am giving this phone and other SONY ERICSSON MODELS a BIG ZERO STAR not because it has any functional flaw in terms of lost signals, voice quality, wifi features etc. Luckily both the phones were same so we managed to swap the battery each night before we got a new phone. If any sane person reads and understands this review he will NOT BUY SONY ERICCSSON phones which have this NOVEL and CRAPPY interface. Its literally a pin-point contact.

There is no way out of this dead end except throwing that phone because the battery is perfect but you CANNOT CHARGE it. I am a big fan of SONY and 90% of all electronic items in my house is SONY, but this is ridiculous. WITHIN A COUPLE OF MONTHS YOU WONT BE ABLE TO CHARGE IT. I don't know what the bozos at SONY were thinking when they designed this phone. After a couple of months the contact becomes dysfunctional as you would expect from such a contact.

Compare it to the charging connector you get on other phones. And if that is not enough, they have the same flaky interface for transferring data, or connecting their head phone. The problem is NOBODY will look at this flaw when buying a cell-phone because its so rare that you cannot charge your cell phone even though the battery is fine.

I've only bought two phones for myself and both of them are still going strong. My very first cell phone was a Nokia 6010. The video is small and not very clear once it's been transferred to the computer.

My only complaint would be the camera. I found a guy on ebay who sells the covers and backs in hot pink, lime green, cobalt blue, turquoise, etc.nice. The Sony Ericsson W300i is terrific for texting and talking because of great signal reception and ease of use.

I love this phone though and love the fact that I can change the color of the black part to pretty much any color i want. Overall, it takes pretty good pics, but they are grainy when transferred to the computer. Same with the video recording.

I hope that the next phone I get does as well as my first two have. It didn't do much, but it served it's purpose and I now consider it the tank of cell phones because it's still working and I keep it as a back up.

I spent a few weeks comparing phones before settling on the w300i. It's been about 18 months since I started using it and I've never had any problems with call quality or signal strength. This is one darn good phone.

I have had 1 of these phones and i must say that it is by far one of the best phones i have ever had. It has a lot of different features and there is so much versitility thaat the owner can actually customize the phone to suit their personility. It has excellent internal memory and sound quality. The only drawback to this phone is thet the camera is not all that good. but hey who cares about video recording capability or the quality of the pics when you can have 10+ CD's downloaded to your phone which u can listen to anywhere and the battery life far outlasts that of others.Plus this phone comes with neopets mobile so all you neopet fans here is your chabce to create a Laturi pet.
